It depends for which purpose the printer is used. Printers and multi-function devices can be classified as either consumer-grade or business-grade. Consumer-grade printers are generally sold in retail outlets, such as Officeworks and various online sites. Mostly designed for home use, pricing can range from as low as $60 to around $1,000. These types of printers are relatively cheap to buy but tend to be more expensive to run based on a cost per page. They may also not be as reliable as business-grade printers.
Small and medium businesses would be better off with a business grade device. These are designed with business use in mind, handle higher print volumes and are more economical to run. They can be purchased outright or on a lease or rental arrangement. Pricing generally starts from $1,500 for A4 business multi-function printers or from around $3,500 for A3 business multi-function printers. A lease or rental starts at around $50 per month. Some suppliers offer refurbished models which can be a good option, as long as service and warranty are included.
